Lionsgate has unveiled a teaser trailer for Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, which is heading straight to VOD this February 12. From the gals who brought you Bridesmaids (co-stars and co-writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo), the upcoming comedy focuses on lifelong friends Barb and Star, who embark on the adventure of a lifetime when they decide to leave their small Midwestern town for the first time…ever. Romance, friendship, and a villain’s evil plot … Hold onto your culottes!
Today's teaser trailer is unconventional, to say the least. It begins with a young paper delivery person atop their bike, singing an off-key rendition of Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb's "Guilty". After skillfully tossing a paper onto a nearby stoop, we're introduced to Barb and Star, who are engaged in a conversation about their favorite movie trailers. “I like how they’re little movies about another movie before a different movie,” Star tells Barb. Soon thereafter, the ladies begin talking about what if they had their own movie trailer? The duo then says that in addition to not giving anything away about their movie, they would refuse to show their faces. What happens next is exactly that.
The trailer, set to Madonna’s “Holiday,” refuses to give us full-on looks at either lady's faces. The moment you think all will be revealed, the opportunity is snatched away, leaving nothing but mystery in its wake. What follows is a series of quick-cuts from the film, which treat us to plenty of awkward dancing, a mysterious villain, shirt-ripping action, and crowded beach party scenes that are bound to give people living the COVID life a bout of nervous sweats.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum from a screenplay by Wiig and Mumolo, Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar also stars Jamie Dornan, Damon Wayans Jr., Vanessa Bayer and Wendi McLendon-Covey. If you feel as if you could use a vacation but still can't leave the house due to the ongoing pandemic, maybe check-in with Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, when the movie is available to rent on VOD service beginning on February 12.
