Variety is reporting that Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams have signed on to costar in the high-concept romance THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger and will be directed by Robert Schwentke, most recently responsible for the profitable yet paltry FLIGHTPLAN.
Bana will star as Henry de Tamble, a librarian who has a genetic disorder that causes him to travel through time. During his journeys, he meets the young heiress Claire Abshire (McAdams) and falls in love with her. Of course, since Henry is too busy surfing the space-time continuum, their relationship suffers. Long distance relationships never work out.
Brad Pitt will take on producing duties and the pic is set to start filming in August for New Line who must adore McAdams after working with her on THE NOTEBOOK and WEDDING CRASHERS. She’s got the Iraq war drama THE RETURN up next, while Bana has LUCKY YOU with Drew Barrymore opening on Decemeber 21st, and can be seen later this year in THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL, as King Henry VIII with Scarlett and Natalie. Yep, that Scarlett and Natalie.
