Best known to many genre fans for her role in Deep Blue Sea, Saffron Burrows can be seen in episodes of the newly released third season of the Netflix psychological thriller series You – and now Burrows is set to take part in the horror-thriller Baghead, which has just started filming.
First announced about two years ago, Baghead is a feature expansion of director Alberto Corredor’s 2017 short of the same name. Scripted by Christina Pamies and Bryce McGuire, the film will follow
the enigmatic Baghead, a diminutive wrinkled up person who is able to manifest the dead and bring them back to our world for brief periods of time. People seek out the medium to reconnect with lost loved ones. Once in contact with Baghead however, the title character’s true powers and intentions are revealed and there is a high price to pay for its contact with the deceased.
Burrows joins a cast that includes the previously announced Freya Allan (The Witcher) and Ruby Barker (Bridgerton). Deadline reports that Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Peter Mullan (Top of the Lake), and Julika Jenkins (Dark) have also been cast in the film. Details on most of the characters are being kept under wraps, all we really know is that Barker is playing “a young woman who must face off with Baghead and put a stop to its maniacal evil at all costs”.
The film is being produced by The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona as part of their deal with Studiocanal. Vertigo’s Roy Lee, Alibi’s Jake Wagner, and Corredor’s short film collaborator Lorcan Reilly serve as executive producers. Ron Halpern, Shana Eddy, and Rachel Henchosberg are overseeing Baghead for Studiocanal.
I haven’t seen the original short film, but the plot synopsis sounds interesting and I liked a different short-to-feature Heineman and Rona produced (Come Play), so I’ll give this a chance. How do you feel about Baghead and Saffron Burrows joining the cast?
