Baghead: Freya Allan, Ruby Barker star in feature expansion of short film

It has been a year and a half since we reported that director Alberto Corredor was teaming up with Studiocanal for a feature expansion of his 15 minute short film Baghead, but now the project is gearing up to start filming in Berlin, Germany this fall and two Netflix stars have signed on for lead roles. Baghead is set to star The Witcher's Freya Allan and Bridgerton's Ruby Barker.

Written by Christina Pamies and Bryce McGuire, the feature version of Baghead will build on the concept of

a mysterious figure called Baghead, a diminutive wrinkled up person who is able to manifest the dead and bring them back to our world for short intervals. People seek out the mysterious medium to reconnect with lost loved ones. Once in contact with Baghead however, the title character’s true powers and intentions are revealed and there is a high price to pay for its contact with the deceased.

Details on Allan's character weren't revealed, but we know Barker will be playing the "key role" of "a young woman who must face off with the treacherous Baghead and put a stop to its maniacal evil at all costs".

Barker also starred in the film How to Stop a Recurring Dream, while Allan had a role in the HBO series The Third Day.

Baghead is being produced by The Picture Company's Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona. Corredor and Baghead short co-creator Lorcan Reilly serve as executive producers alongside Alibi's Jake Wagner and Vertigo's Roy Lee. Ron Halpern, Shana Eddy, and Rachel Henchosberg are overseeing the project for Studiocanal. Heineman and Rona recently produced the horror film Come Play, which was also a feature expansion of a short.

This will be Corredor's feature directorial debut. You can check out the trailer for the original Baghead short below, to help you decide if you'll be interested in a feature length version of the story.
