THE RAID kicked my f*cking ass. When action films at the time were content with that close-up/quick-cuts/shaky-cam bullshit that made it look like a toddler with epilepsy was filming the action scenes, THE RAID came out and showed how real action should be done. Wide shots, long takes, brutal stunts, blood, gore, broken bones. Not saying all action movies have to be shot that way, but it was a nice change of pace nonetheless.
Which brings us to this new film, HEADSHOT. While the director of THE RAID isn’t directing this one, the main star of the film Iko Uwais is still front-and-center. And he looks as badass as ever.
Here’s the synopsis (though who gives a shit really?):
Uwais plays a young man who washes ashore, an amnesiac with a serious head injury whose past comes back to haunt him shortly after being nursed back to health by a young doctor. Violence ensues. Sweet, sweet violence.
Holy balls! That looks pretty awesome. I even like how it focuses on the soft love story before hitting us with all the brutal, bloody (and yes, sweet) violence. Here’s hoping that the film has a bit of a beating heart underneath it, though, which is what elevates badass action movies to great movies, period.
There’s no release date yet for the states, but it already opened in Indonesia. I never had a reason to go to Indonesia before, but I think I might start packing for a vacation…
So what’s everyone’s favorite fight scene?
