Last October, we learned that NBC was thinking of giving the green light to a BAD BOYS spinoff TV series project starring Gabrielle Union. Today, the broadcast television network has announced that a pilot for the project has officially been ordered with Jerry Bruckheimer TV, Doug Belgrad’s 2.0 Entertainment, Primary Wave and Sony TV all contributing to the commitment.
The yet-to-be titled spinoff action program will be penned by BLACKLIST writer/producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. For the show, Syd Burnett (Union), who was last seen in Miami taking down a nefarious drug cartel, is now an LAPD detective and can pursue all the pleasures Los Angeles has to offer and leave her past behind. But things will get dodgy when her new partner, Nancy McKenna, learns that Syd’s unforgiving lifestyle could be hiding more than a few skeletons in her closeted past. In the film series, Syd is the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and was romantically entangled with Marcus' partner, Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (Will Smith).
It's worth noting that Belgrad was the creative executive on the original BAD BOYS, and has been working to co-finance the long-awaited sequel to Michael Bay's BAD BOYS II.
What'cha gonna do when Gabrielle Union's BAD BOYS spinoff TV series comes for you? Personally, I'm curious about this one. I've always been a fan of Unions, and I have fond enough memories for the BAD BOYS franchise to give the pilot a watch, for sure. If you were in charge of the series, what title would you give it? I'd go with something simple and familiar like BAD GIRL. It's effortless, though it also packs quite the punch if you say it right.
Be sure to keep it close for more updates as this project develops.
