When Sigourney Weaver mentioned a few months ago that she would be reprising the role of Dana Barrett in director Jason Reitman's GHOSTBUSTERS 2020, a sequel to the original GHOSTBUSTERS, she also said that "It's going to be crazy working with the guys again!", implying that she'll be sharing the screen with surviving GHOSTBUSTERS stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson. The fact that Annie Potts is also going to be in the movie as Ghostbusters receptionist Janine seemed to make it certain that the original Ghostbusters will be back… And now two of them have confirmed their involvement.
While speaking with Joe Rogan on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, Aykroyd said that even though he doesn't do much acting anymore (which you couldn't tell by looking at the steady stream of credits on his IMDb filmography),
We've got the Ghostbusters movie that we're working on now and I will have to be performing in that."
Aykroyd said "most of the original people" from the first GHOSTBUSTERS will be in GHOSTBUSTERS 2020, but when asked if Bill Murray will be in it he only said, "We're hoping."
Murray may not have shown up on the set yet, but Ernie Hudson has been on the set. In a Cameo message sent out to a fan for their birthday, Hudson (wearing his character's ghostbusting jumpsuit) said,
We're shooting the new GHOSTBUSTERS right now, coming out next summer, so I'm hoping that you'll enjoy it as much as the other movies that we've done. I know that I'm having a blast doing them."
So Aykroyd and Hudson are definitely in there. Now where's Murray?
Written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, GHOSTBUSTERS 2020 centers on
a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.
The family is being played by Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard. Child actors Celeste O'Connor and Logan Kim are also in the cast, and Paul Rudd plays a teacher in the film.
GHOSTBUSTERS 2020 is scheduled to reach theatres on July 10, 2020.
