Well, 2018 sure was one hell of a year for movies–and not just GOOD movies either! So we here at Awfully Good Movies are celebrating the end of the year once more with our Top 10 countdown of the worst movies of 2018, as voted by the readers of JoBlo.com. And this year’s slate of crappy celluloid was full of achievements that were once thought to be impossible. We finally got ourselves a PACIFIC RIM sequel only to have it end up being far worse than the TRANSFORMERS movie which got released the same year. We had a new JURASSIC WORLD movie that actually had audiences and critics generally agreeing over its subpar quality this time. We had JJ Abrams producing a new CLOVERFIELD movie that didn’t end up living up to the hype of its trailer. And we had Shane Black returning to the PREDATOR franchise only to give us a reboot that was less PREDATOR 2 and more ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM. Plus, we had a John Gotti biopic starring John Travolta and an adult-themed puppet crime comedy from the Jim Henson Company which finally hit the big screen after many long years writhing in production hell…and after we saw the finished products, we ended up wishing they had stayed in production hell.
But on the good side, Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of A WRINKLE IN TIME made her the first black woman to direct a $100 million movie…even though that money got wasted on turning Reese Witherspoon into a giant lettuce bird. Plus, Tom Hardy ended up giving us a far better portrayal of Venom than Topher Grace did…even though the rest of that VENOM movie was more or less a “turd in the wind”. And most importantly, the FIFTY SHADES OF GREY franchise finally came to its merciful end, with FIFTY SHADES FREED ending the series on a premature climax. Oh, and there was another Robin Hood movie which came out this year too. It was also bad. So while there has been a whole lot of cinematic crap this year, the worst movies of 2018 are certainly one of the most diverse and exciting lineups that we’ve seen in the history of these Top 10 countdowns…although this countdown video was sadly forced to go to press right before the reviews for HOLMES AND WATSON started to roll in. Shame on you, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly; that movie was so unfunny that I was never once in danger of falling off my dinosaur.
And don't forget to check out our other Top 10 Worst Movies countdown videos, while counting down many times I use the word "incomprehensible" in each video! (Spoiler: I use it a LOT.)
