Stars: Fred Savage, Howie Mandel, Daniel Stern

Halloween is almost here again, and Awfully Good Movies is celebrating the arrival of the witching hour by revisiting a creepy family comedy that some of you may remember from your childhoods: 1989's LITTLE MONSTERS, starring Fred Savage and Howie Mandel! You know when you were a kid and thought that there was a monster underneath your bed? Well, this flick presupposes that those monsters actually exist, and Fred Savage plays Brian, the one lucky kid who gets to befriend one of these monsters by the name of Maurice, played by a blue-colored Howie Mandel. Together, the two of them travel through the magical world of Maurice's fellow bedroom monsters, face off against the evil rulers of the monster underworld trying to kidnap Brian's little brother (played by Fred's actual little brother Ben), and get revenge on Brian's school bully by…replacing his apple juice with Howie Mandel's urine?!? Yeah, this "family-friendly" comedy has got a WHOOOOLE lot of questionable content in it for a PG-rated movie: kids getting their heads ripped off their bodies, monsters being set on fire with flamethrowers, and Howie Mandel wriggling his tongue at a 12-year-old girl. But even though the MPAA clearly didn't watch this movie, I sure watched it religiously in my younger days, and perhaps I can share some of that joy with you viewers out there this Halloween…namely because I'm all out of Baby Ruths, so I can either put nostalgic joy in your trick-or-treat bags, or I'm gonna have to give you some apples instead, and NO ONE WANTS FUCKING APPLES IN THEIR TRICK-OR-TREAT BAGS.

And since I don't want you to TP my house, treat yourself to another Awfully Good Movies episode to spook yourself silly:
