Avengers: Infinity War tops IMDb’s most anticipated movies list

With STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI officially in the rear-view mirror everyone is beginning to focus all their attention on the movies of 2018.  There’s so much to look forward to, including superheroes, dinosaurs, space adventures, ensemble comedies and no doubt some sleeper hits that will soon be awoken. We all have our personal “Top 10,” but IMDb has put out the official list of the top 10 most anticipated movies of the year, a result of an analysis of page views for each movie by visitors. Remember, IMDb is always watching.

According to the list, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR tops the list of most anticipated movies, being the movie with the most page views for a 2018 film. Following it is another Marvel movie, BLACK PANTHER, and behind that is another comic book movie, DEADPOOL 2. Rounding out the top five are JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM and the video game adaptation TOMB RAIDER starring Alicia Vikander.

Here is the top 10

1. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (MAY 4, 2018)
2. BLACK PANTHER (FEB. 16, 2018)
3. DEADPOOL 2 (JUNE 1, 2018)
4. JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (JUNE 22, 2018)
5. TOMB RAIDER (MARCH 16, 2018)
6. PACIFIC RIM UPRISING (MARCH 23, 2018)
7. THE PREDATOR (AUG. 3, 2018)
8. OCEAN’S EIGHT (JUNE 8, 2018)
9. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 (JULY 27, 2018)
10. SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY (MAY 25, 2018)

The list was unveiled yesterday, and among the notable exclusions are surefire hits like INCREDIBLES 2, X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, READY PLAYER ONE, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP and more. As well, IMDb also put out the top 10 movies of 2017 as per page views, with movies like IT, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and WONDER WOMAN topping the list. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI did not make the cut.

1. IT
2. WONDER WOMAN
3. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
4. LOGAN
5. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2
6. JUSTICE LEAGUE
7. SPLIT
8. ALIEN: COVENANT
9. THOR: RAGNAROK
10. BLADE RUNNER 2049

Obviously, this is not a metric for what will be successful come 2018. Movies like AVENGERS, DEADPOOL and JURASSIC WORLD will no doubt be massive money earners like their predecessors, but TOMB RAIDER, PACIFIC RIM, PREDATOR may have a harder time at the box office. What’s fascinating to me is that this many people are still interested in the likes of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies, and PREDATOR for that matter. SOLO barely made the list, which means people are curious about it, but that Lucasfilm and Disney need to get on promoting that movie soon to drum up proper anticipation. Now may be the time for a trailer to "accidentally leak" if you catch my drift.  You can't tell, but I am currently winking.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR kicks off the summer season on May 4, 2018.
