It’s been quite some time since Kate Winslet and James Cameron last worked together (I can’t remember the film), but the pair have reunited for Avatar 2. Winlset is set to play Ronal, a Na’vi warrior and member of the Metkayina tribe led by Cliff Curtis’ Tonowari. Empire Magazine has featured Kate Winslet’s Ronal on the cover of their latest issue and has also dropped a new image of Ronal and Tonowari. Check those out below!
“She is deeply loyal and a fearless leader,” Kate Winslet told Empire about her Avatar 2 role. “She is strong. A warrior. Even in the face of grave danger, and with an unborn baby on board, she still joins her people and fights for what she holds most dear. Her family and their home.” Winslet has previously teased that while Ronal won’t have the biggest role in the first Avatar sequel, she will be a “pivotal character in the ongoing story,” which means that we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the other movies.
Set 14 years after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water will find Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) having started a family, but when the Resources Development Administration (RDA) returns to Pandora, the family is forced to flee to the reef. Jake and Neytiri’s family includes Na’vi kids Neteyam (Jamie Flatter), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss), but they also have Miles Socorro (Jack Champion). Also known as Spider, the young boy was born at the military base on Pandora but was too small to return to Earth so he has been raised by Jake and Neytiri.
Avatar: The Way of Water will hit theaters on December 16, 2022, followed by Avatar 3 on December 20, 2023, Avatar 4 on December 18, 2026, and Avatar 5 on December 22, 2028.
