Recently it was announced that Eisner Award-winning writer Tom King will be joining Ava DuVernay on scripting duties for DC's THE NEW GODS, an ambitious new film project set to introduce audiences to the Jack Kirby-created characters that welcomed comic readers into the Fourth World.
As per DC Wikia: New Gods have evolved due to their close proximity to the Source, a primeval energy, believed to be one of the ultimate foundations of the Universal Expression of Energy, along with their superior technology, into beings of genetic stability and evolutionary perfection. The denizens of New Genesis are stronger, faster, and smarter than homo sapiens, despite their resemblance to the same.
THE NEW GODS helmer Ava DuVernay (A WRINKLE IN TIME, WHEN THEY SEE US) recently participated in a Twitter Q&A, where she confirmed which villains will arrive as part of DC's next major endeavor.
When asked by a fan if Darkseid will play a part in the film to come, DuVernay simply stated "Darkseid is," which is a nod to King's multi-award winning Mister Miracle maxi-series for DC Comics.
During the online session, another Twitter user asked DuVernay is the Female Furies will be included in the project. She confirmed that yes, Big Barda and her league of warrior women will unleash hell when NEW GODS comes to theaters.
With regard to casting, DuVernay says that she is keeping her mind open to any and all possibilities. Previously, she'd teased that “there is a 99.9% chance” that an actor from her WHEN THEY SEE US Netflix series will become a part of the film.
She also reiterated that she's "a big fan" of Tom King's work, and is pleased to have him along for what is sure to be a weird and wild ride.
