It's been a couple years since we shared the news that actor Jason Mewes would be making his feature directorial debut with a serial killer comedy called MADNESS IN THE METHOD, and now we know when fans will finally have a chance to check it out. Cinedigm has acquired the North American distribution rights to MADNESS IN THE METHOD and will be giving the film a theatrical and digital release on August 2nd – which also happens to be the birthday of Mewes's friend and frequent collaborator Kevin Smith.
Mewes and Smith both play fictional versions of themselves in the movie. Written by Chris Anastasi and producer Dominic Burns, MADNESS IN THE METHOD has the following synopsis:
Tired of Hollywood’s perception of him, Jason Mewes embarks on a quest to reinvent himself as a serious actor. Upon advice from best friend Kevin Smith, he tracks down a secretive method-acting book — with disastrous consequences.
Gina Carano, Jaime Camil, Vinnie Jones, Danny Trejo, Teri Hatcher, Brian O’Halloran, Dean Cain, Blake Harrison, Casper Van Dien, Judd Nelson, David Dastmalchian, Matt Willis, Mickey Gooch Jr., and the late Stan Lee are also in the cast.
MADNESS IN THE METHOD is the first major on-screen team-up for Mewes and Smith since CLERKS II in 2006, and Cinedeigm EVP Acquisitions Yolanda Macias had this to say about it:
We are thrilled to release Madness in the Method. Jason made a hilarious film that is sure to give all of his and Kevin Smith’s fans the laughs they’ve been hungry for since Clerks 2."
I've been a fan of Mewes and Smith for about 25 years now, so I will definitely be watching MADNESS IN THE METHOD this August.
