Alright, alright, sit down, Jessie and James, this is not your movie. Hi, sorry about that. This afternoon, Warner Bros. Pictures and Toho released a snazzy-looking title treatment for the upcoming mystery comedy film DETECTIVE PIKACHU. As you can see from the image below, the title has sort of a noir meets Pac-Man vibe to it, giving the art a stylish glow that is bound to please long-time fans of the Pokemon game series.

Directed and co-written by Rob Letterman (GOOSEBUMPS, SHARK TALE) alongside screenwriter Nicole Perlman (CAPTAIN MARVEL, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY), DETECTIVE PIKACHU is a live-action adventure that stars the voice of DEADPOOL's Ryan Reynolds as a sassy Pikachu, whose job it is to hunt and catch criminals as a member of the Ryme City police department. Ken Wantanabe has also been named as a member of the cast. For the film, Reynolds will act out his Pikachu role via motion capture, and boy oh boy can I not wait to see the behind-the-scenes footage for that spectacle.
I have no shame in admitting that I am an avid Pokemon player. My wife and I enjoy both the handheld series as well as the walkabout exploration app Pokemon Go. While I'm a little blown away at the idea of there being a live-action Pokemon film on the way, I totally cop to being really excited about this project. Plus, Reynolds as Pikachu? C'mon! That's got to be worth the price of admission right there, amiright?
Anyway, you can catch DETECTIVE PIKACHU when it appears in theaters on May 10, 2019.
