Joe Cornish's sci-fi horror/comedy Attack the Block followed a teenage gang in South London (led by a young John Boyega) as they're forced to defend their block from an alien invasion. The film was hugely entertaining and quickly became a cult classic, and fans have been clamouring for a sequel over the past decade. Earlier this year, Cornish hinted that a sequel to Attack the Block was moving forward. "We're working on it at the moment," Cornish said. "John Boyega was round at my place a few weeks ago and we sat in the garden — socially distanced — talking about story ideas until it was so dark we couldn't see each other. So, yeah, we're working on that." At the time, I expressed doubt that the sequel would actually happen, but it turns out that I should have been more optimistic.
Deadline has reported that Joe Cornish is set to write and direct the Attack the Block sequel, which will also see John Boyega reprising his role of Moses. Holy crap! "It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released and so much has changed since then," Boyega said. "I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour." Joe Cornish added, "I'm thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack The Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action." At this time, the plot of the sequel is being kept under wraps. In addition to writing and directing the sequel, Joe Cornish will also produce the project alongside John Boyega.
The original film launched the career of John Boyega, who was a complete unknown at the time, but as he has gone on to star in blockbusters such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Pacific Rim: Uprising, it will be interesting to see what the more seasoned actor will bring to Moses ten years down the road. I'm certainly excited for this one/
