I was pretty confident back in March, when I first saw ATTACK THE BLOCK at the very first US screening of the film, that it would find a place on my Best of 2011 list. We’re now almost done with July and ATTACK is still nestled among the very best of the year so far.
The film has been screening in major cities since SXSW and, at least as near as I can tell, hasn’t found a single, major detractor. It’s just a lovable movie (as lovable as a movie about an alien invasion could be). This weekend it finally opens in theaters where anyone can (and should) go see it.
But what has been slightly more difficult is finding more information on where ATTACK THE BLOCK is playing. The US run doesn’t seem to have a website (nothing is listed on Sony’s website and attacktheblock.com still is promoting the UK release) but we’ve got an official list of every theater playing the film in US and Canada.
The film is starting out in 7 cities right now – New York, Los Angeles, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and Chicago – with the promise of more to come. But this promise of additional theaters is predicated on you (yes YOU) going to see it this weekend if you live in one of those cities. We’ve had some mildly retarded alien invasion flicks in the past few months (I’m looking at you SKYLINE), so if you want to see more films like this, go out and show your support!
