It’s not often you hear news related to the 1978 cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (watch it HERE), but this week we have Killer Tomatoes news to report two days in a row! Yesterday, we shared a three hour retrospective documentary that looked back at not just Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, but also the franchise that it spawned: three sequels and two seasons of an animated TV series. Now it has come to our attention that, forty-five years after it was released, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is finally getting the novelization treatment!
Boasting a page count of 238, the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes novelization was written by Jeff Strand and has a release date of April 14. Copies can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
Here’s the description: UFOs! Bigfoot! Communists! The government has swiftly dealt with many a crisis… But can it survive the diabolical ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES? After a series of bizarre and increasingly horrific attacks from pulpy, red, seeded fruit, Mason Dixon finds himself leading a “crack” team of specialists to save the planet. But will they be quick enough to save everyone? To save you? You can’t run! You can’t swim! There’s nowhere to hide! THE KILLER TOMATOES ARE EVERYWHERE!
Best known for his works of horror comedy (which makes him an ideal choice to write an Attack of the Killer Tomatoes novelization), Strand has a long list of books to his name, including Autumn Bleeds Into Winter, Cemetery Closing (Everything Must Go), I Have A Bad Feeling About This, A Bad Day For Voodoo, The Haunted Forest Tour, and Twentieth Anniversary Screening.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was directed by John DeBello, who crafted the screenplay with Costa Dillon and Stephen Peace. DeBello, Dillon, and Peace continued to guide the franchise through Return of the Killer Tomatoes, Killer Tomatoes Strike Back, and Killer Tomatoes Eat France. DeBello and Peace were also executive producers on the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes cartoon.
