The Handyman of Horror is back as Dean C. Jones' TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 will finally see a release through the fine folks at Scream Factory as part of their "Summer of Fear Part II" lineup.
We've been writing about TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 for years as the sequel to Tobe Hooper's 2004 reimagining of the 1978 cult favorite has had a long, hard road to distribution in its complete form. The film was released internationally as COFFIN BABY, and was allegedly edited together using footage directed by Jones intended to be TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 and another film unrelated to that movie altogether. Distribution of COFFIN BABY was stopped by agreement between Dean Jones and the producers of TOOLBOX MURDERS 2, who resolved their differences and now stand behind TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 as the only film authorized for distribution. Enter Scream Factory to finally bring the film to the masses.
Picking up directly after the events of Hooper's shocking film, Toolbox Murders 2 ratchets up the terror as it follows one of Hollywood's most twisted killers. Resurfacing in the darkest corners of the L.A. underworld with a serious axe to grind, the killer hammers out a plan to put the screws to a new victim: Samantha, the sister of his prey from his previous rampage. Soon Samantha finds herself held captive in a house of horrors and forced to undergo the most unspeakable tortures… with little hope of escape.
The film stars Chauntal Lewis, Brian Krause, Chris Doyle, and Bruce Dern. TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 has a DVD and Blu-ray street date planned for August 4, 2015, so we're expecting to hear some details on bonus features soon enough. You can check out the artwork below.
