Assassin’s Creed anime series in development from Castlevania producer

Assassin's Creed

Although ASSASSIN'S CREED may not have been the video-game movie saviour which we were hoping it would be, we haven't seen the last of the Ubisoft franchise, except this time it will be in the form of an anime series from Adi Shankar, producer of Netflix's upcoming Castlevania series. Shankar confirmed the news himself on Facebook, but unfortunately we don't where or when the series will land.

I'm happy to let you guys know that I've selected my next project! I played the first edition of Assassin's Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin's Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life they are wrong.

Given the lackluster critical and commercial response which the ASSASSIN'S CREED film received, Adi Shankar's anime series may be your best bet for new Assassin's Creed stories outside of the games. No official announcement has been made yet, but I'd imagine that we'll be hearing more about this potential series before too long. Assassin's Creed isn't the only video-game anime series which Shankar has been working on, in fact, his adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is set to debut on Netflix this Friday. Here's hoping that it will bolster enthusiasm for Assassin's Creed to receive a similar treatment.

Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy series which will follow "the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself." Castlevania producer Adi Shankar (DREDD) had previously teased that the series will be "very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones," before adding that it is "going to be R-rated as f**k."

Castlevania will debut on Netflix on July 7th.
