Four years have already gone by since the three season run of Ash vs. Evil Dead came to an end on Starz – and when the show ended, Evil Dead franchise star Bruce Campbell announced that he was formally retiring from the role on Ash. At least when it comes to physically playing the character on screen. Since then, writer/director Lee Cronin has made a new Evil Dead movie called Evil Dead Rise, which does not have Campbell in the cast and is going to be released through the HBO Max streaming service, and Campbell has vocally reprised the role of Ash for the recently released Evil Dead: The Game. Now, during a new interview with Collider, Campbell has revealed that Ash vs. Evil Dead may continue as an animated series, with him providing the voice of Ash!
After mourning the cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead, which would have shown Ash fighting the forces of evil in a hi-tech future if it had gotten a fourth season, Collider’s Perri Nemiroff asked Campbell if there’ s any hope for the continuation of that story. Campbell replied,
Yeah, as an animated series. You pick up right where the show left off. You can do the future a lot easier in animation. You know, and I still sound like Ash. My voice hasn’t been as beat-up as my body has been, so I can still do that crap. So I’ll still do the video game and we’re already talking about an animated series.”
Seven months ago, Campbell said he would be willing to provide the voice of Ash for an animated Evil Dead series, and it sounds like the idea has progressed to a point where he and franchise creator Sam Raimi are now in talks about getting such a series off the ground. This is very exciting news as far as I’m concerned. It will be a different experience to watch an animated Evil Dead project, but I’ll take all the Ash I can get, in any way that Campbell can do it.
