Looks like NBC's supernatural DC series Constantine may not be completely dead. While the short-lived show was cancelled after a single season and no other network jumped in to carry it for a second round, it looks like the character of John Constantine may have another shot on a different DC show.
At Comic Con, Arrow star Stephen Amell teased that the new season of the show would feature a theme of magic and mysticism. IGN then asked if there was a chance Constantine could cross-over onto the series. Arrow producer Wendy Mercle had this to say.
“Yeah, we really want to do it. It’s something we’ve been talking to DC about and it’s just a question of some political things, but also the actor’s schedule. We’re trying to work it out, but we don’t know 100 percent if it’s going to happen, but we’re really optimistic and we would love to have him.”
With each subsequent run of episodes, Arrow has shifted from existing in a realistic, Nolan-esque world to one full of meta-humans thanks to the spin-off success of The Flash. Bringing in mystical elements would not be new as the third season revolved around R'as Al Ghul and his ability to bring back the dead. Season four will already have a villain in Damien Darhk so why not bring in Constantine?
While I was disappointed in NBC's take on the character, it would be cool to see him exist in a combined universe with The CW's quality shows. Here's hoping this is just the beginning of what DC's small screen cross-overs have to offer.
Arrow's fourth season premiere airs on October 7th.
