So Shane Black (who actually co-starred in the original PREDATOR) is hard at work writing and directing the upcoming sequel, THE PREDATOR. And, while we haven't seen much from it yet (besides a surprisingly cheesy-looking cast photo), Shane Black has been doing some good work since his comeback with KISS, KISS, BANG, BANG (even though I personally hate IRON MAN 3, I know it was a well-made movie I just didn't connect with).
However, the question on a lot of people's minds was: will Arnold come back? Well, that question has been answered as he did an interview with Yahoo! News. Let's hear what he had to say about it:
They asked me, and I read it, and I didn’t like it — whatever they offered. So I’m not going to do that, no. Except if there’s a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role. But the way it is now, no, I won’t do that.
Ouch.
So, as previously reported, Black's new film is most definitely a sequel to the 1987 original, and this just re-confirms that. And while it's disappointing Schwarzenegger's Dutch won't be showing up, in some ways that might be a blessing in disguise – let the movie live (or die) on its own merits, rather than trying to force-feed nostalgia. Still, it would've been cool to see Arnold in another PREDATOR movie.
Well, c'est la vie.
Either way, THE PREDATOR will come stalking into theaters February 9th, 2018.
