I haven't watched Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead on the Netflix streaming service yet, so I haven't been introduced to the character of Ludwig Dieter, played by Matthias Schweighöfer. Hopefully Dieter is a cool, entertaining guy, because he happens to be at the center of the upcoming prequel Army of Thieves, which also happens to be directed by Schweighöfer. Netflix hasn't announced a release date for this one yet, but they have released a batch of first look images, which you can see below.
In these images, we see Dieter sharing the frame with characters played by Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Guz Khan (Man Like Mobeen), Stuart Martin (Jamestown), and Ruby O. Fee (Polar).
Scripted by Shay Hatten from a story by Zack Snyder, Army of Thieves has the following synopsis:
A small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol's most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
Jonathan Cohen, Noémie Nakai, Trent Garrett, John Bubniak, and Barbara Meier are also in the cast.
Schweighöfer has been acting since the '90s and directing since 2011. His previous directing credits include four comedy features – What a Man, The Break Up Man, Joy of Fatherhood, and The Manny – and the thriller series You Are Wanted. He produced Army of Thieves with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Dan Maag of Pantaleon Films.
We'll let you know when Netflix reveals the release date for Army of Thieves. In the meantime, check out these images… and for those of you who have watched Army of the Dead, are you looking forward to seeing a movie that's all about the Dieter character?
