Army of Darkness (1992) – Celebrating 30 years of the Sam Raimi classic

On February 19, 1993, the third entry in director Sam Raimi‘s Evil Dead franchise – Army of Darkness (watch it HERE) – reached theatres. Even though the film was a box office failure, it quickly earned a cult following… and by now, it probably ranks as one of the most popular horror comedies ever made. That’s why we have put together a video to celebrate 30 years of Army of Darkness, which you can now check out in the embed above!

Written by Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan Raimi, Army of Darkness has the following synopsis: Ash is transported back to medieval days, where he is captured by the dreaded Lord Arthur. Aided by the deadly chainsaw that has become his only friend, Ash is sent on a perilous mission to recover the Book of the Dead, a powerful tome that gives its owner the power to summon an army of ghouls.

The film stars Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert, Ian Abercrombie, Richard Grove, Ted Raimi, Bridget Fonda, Timothy Patrick Quill, Michael Earl Reid, Patricia Tallman, Bill Moseley, and of course Bruce Campbell as heroic-but-dim horror icon Ash Williams.

The Army of Darkness 30th anniversary video was Written, Edited, and Narrated by Lance Vlcek, Produced by John Fallon and Lance Vlcek, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

Are you a fan of Army of Darkness, and what did you think of the 30th anniversary video? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Each entry in the Evil Dead franchise is different. The Evil Dead was dark, gritty, and intense, Evil Dead II took things in a more comedic direction, and Army of Darkness is not only even goofier and more comedic than Evil Dead II, it’s also a medieval adventure rather than another movie about Ash battling demons at a cabin in the woods. Honestly, I found the shift in tone and style to be jarring the first time I watched the movie back in the mid-’90s, but I quickly came to appreciate it for what it is. I’m very glad Raimi and Campbell made it, and have watched it many times over the decades.
