Armie Hammer won’t be charged with sexual assault

Armie Hammer will not face sexual assault charges following an “extremely thorough review” that began in 2021.

Armie Hammer assault

Armie Hammer, who was facing allegations of sexual assault during an extensive investigation, will not face actual charges, ending a probe that began in March 2021.

In a statement regarding the assault investigation of Armie Hammer, Tiffany Blacknell, the director of communications for district attorney George Gascon, stated, “Sexual assault cases are often difficult to prove, which is why we assign our most experienced prosecutors to review them. In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime. As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Blacknell continued, saying that while there are obviously sexual victims around the world, there was simply not enough evidence to objectively charge Armie Hammer with crimes of assault. “We know that it is hard for women to report sexual assault. Even when we cannot move forward with a prosecution, our victim service representatives will be available to those who seek our victim support services. Due to the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Armie Hammer remained mostly quiet after the sexual assault investigation launched, but issued a statement in February that referred to both his behavior and attempts at bettering himself. “I’m here to own my mistakes, take accountability for the fact that I was an asshole, that I was selfish, that I used people to make me feel better, and when I was done, moved on…I’m now a healthier, happier, more balanced person.”

The assault claims have plagued Armie Hammer for the past couple of years, losing out on numerous roles, including Shotgun Wedding, Paramount+’s recounting of The Godfather’s production in The Offer, Taika Waititi’s soccer comedy Next Goal Wins, and more. He and his family were also the subject of a damning Discovery+ docuseries titled House of Hammer.

How do you think Armie Hammer’s overall reputation will be now that no charges will be pressed against him? Do you think he can make a full recovery? Let us know in the comments section below.
