Well we know Paul Verhoeven is the latest director whose films seem to be coming up for remakes, with TOTAL RECALL getting the go ahead and ROBOCOP being in a bit of a limbo. But this is not going to put anyone off trying to get another one off the ground, oh no!
Sony Pictures producer Neal Mortiz is going to go a head with a STARSHIP TROOPERS remake, Verhoeven’s awesome sci-fi/action/adventure romp. The film spawned a not so good franchise, so it has been alive in the air. So why reboot this a mere 14 years after? No idea, it seems time frames have no meaning when the Hollywood remake machine is on.
Scriptwriters have been hired; Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz have gotten the gig. Their credits include AGENT CODY BANKS, alright that one wont sell you but how about THOR, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and episodes of FRINGE and THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. Does that help? They could have written the best movie ever made, but this reboot idea would still not sit well.
Check out the original synopsis here – In the distant future high school kids are encouraged to become citizens by joining the military. What they don’t know is that they’ll soon be engaged in a full scale war against a planet of alien insects. The fight is on to ensure the safety of humanity.
