The kid-friendly horror anthology Are You Afraid of the Dark? originally aired for five seasons, running from 1991 to 1996. In 2019, Nickelodeon brought the series back with a revival season that was subtitled Carnival of Doom. A season called Curse of the Shadows followed. And now Deadline has broken the news that a third season of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival is now filming in the Dominican Republic. Expected to air on Nickelodeon sometime later this year, the new season is titled Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Ghost Island.
The Ghost Island season follows
new characters who think they are attending a “fun” vacation on a resort island.
The character list includes Kayla (played by Telci Huynh of Modern Love); Max (played by Conor Sherry of The Terminal List); Leo (played by Luca Padovan of You); Summer (played by Dior Goodjohn of Head of the Class); and Ferris (played by Chance Hurstfield of Good Boys). Julian Curtis (Wish Man) plays Stanley Crane, the hotel manager at the island resort.

I know the original run of Are You Afraid of the Dark? remains quite popular with viewers who used to watch it back in the ’90s. I’m curious to hear from our readers: have any fans of the first Are You Afraid of the Dark? checked out episodes of the revival series, and if so, what did you think?
I’m assuming episodes of the new Are You Afraid of the Dark? wouldn’t work as well for viewers who have aged out of the target demographic, and new episodes would also suffer from a lack of nostalgia factor. But I don’t know, maybe the new show is awesome for genre fans of all ages. So if you have watched the revival, share your thoughts on the show by leaving a comment below.
