Last month we brought you guys the awesome news that Paramount is planning a feature film based on the Nickelodeon kid's horror anthology series ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? with screenwriter Gary Dauberman (ANNABELLE) writing the script.
After that we let you know that Dauberman was planning to retain the show's "dark and scary tone" and today we have the film's release date!
Paramount has set ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? to hit on October 11th, 2019.
I couldn't be more excited about this film. I have seen every single episode of the series multiple times. It's one of my childhood favorites and I love how Paramount didn't hire the writer of, let's say, GOOSEBUMPS to pen the adaptation, but the writer of f*cking IT. Got to love it.
Below you can find Dauberman's comments along with a synopsis for the uninitiated. After that make sure to hit us up and let us know how excited you are for the film in the comments below or on social media!
Gary Dauberman on ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?:
The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We're going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves.
