An official trailer for HBO Max’s Aquaman: King of Atlantis has just bubbled to the surface, teasing the arrival of a new three-part animated miniseries. As you can see, the new animated trilogy is bold, bright, and looks unlike other films set in DC’s animated universe.
The three-part event begins on Aquaman’s first day on the job as King of Atlantis and he’s got a LOT of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up – Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water-controlling warrior-princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time, and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and himself, that he’s the right man for the throne!
Lending their voices to the cast of Aquaman: King of Atlantis is Cooper Andrews as Aquaman (The Walking Dead), Gillian Jacobs (Community) as Mera, Thomas Lennon (Reno 911) as Vulko, and Dana Snyder (Jellystone) as Orm, the Ocean Master. The miniseries are produced by DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, and James Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions. The presentation will stream in three parts weekly on HBO Max, beginning on October 14th.
While I can understand that some may not care for the ThunderCats Roar!-like art style of Aquaman: King of Atlantis, I must admit that I’m all about it. I think it’s cool that DC is trying something different, and the show’s off-the-wall aesthetic seems to suit the humor quite well. If this miniseries is as action-packed as it is hilarious we could be in for a real treat.
