Aquaman 2: Game of Thrones’ Pilou Asbæk to join Jason Momoa in sequel

At long last, production on the Aquaman sequel will kick off later this year, and Deadline has reported that the King of Salt and Rock himself will be joining the cast. Pilou Asbæk, best known for playing Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, has signed on to join Jason Momoa in the sequel.

It's not known who Pilou Asbæk will be playing in Aquaman 2, but it's not hard to imagine him taking on a villainous role, but perhaps that's a little obvious. James Wan will be returning to direct and produce the sequel, with David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick writing the script. As far as what we can expect from the film, it's still too early to say, but James Wan has previously teased that it will once again contain a touch of horror. "I would say yes. Just like the first movie had a touch of my horror sensibility in it, in regards to the Trench sequence, I would say there'll be a little bit of that in this next one," Wan explained. "I think it's something that's a big part of who I am, and it just naturally comes out in these kinds of films. And especially a movie like Aquaman, you know where the story takes place in these underwater worlds that can be very scary. So naturally, my love for the horror genre just means that I latch myself to these scenes and try to give them a little bit more of my scary sauce." Despite rumours that she wouldn't be returning, it's expected that Amber Heard will be back as Mera for the sequel, and Patrick Wilson has also teased that he would be back as Ocean Master.

Aquaman 2 is currently slated for a December 16, 2022 release.
