Just yesterday, we had James McAvoy spill the beans regarding Alan Cumming returning to the role of Nightcrawler for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. It made logical sense since everyone else was coming back. But, today Alan Cumming himself has discredited the rumor.
In a recent radio interview, Cumming was asked about McAvoy’s revelation about his involvement, to which Cumming had this to say:
No, they haven’t [asked me to return]. Someone asked me that the other day and I said no. I know the one that’s coming up shoots this spring, but I wouldn’t be available anyway,”
From the sounds of that, Cumming wouldn’t be open to returning even if he was asked. From the scope that director Bryan Singer is going for, the majority of those who were not featured in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS are likely cameos or smaller roles. Cumming could conceivably film a quick few days in the make-up if he wanted to.
There has been a lot of speculation regarding how X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is being developed. Some are concerned that there are too many characters and that the story is not staying faithful to the classic comic story arc, but we do need to all stop and realize that this is a movie and it will take liberties with the stories. We would all prefer a straight adaptation of the comic, but we have to assume Singer and company know what they are doing. This was the guy who brought us the first two X-MEN movies, after all.
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Hugh Jackman, opens on July 18, 2014.
