About ten months ago, we shared the news that Relic (watch it HERE) director Natalie Erika James had signed on to direct a psychological thriller called Apartment 7A for Paramount Players and A Quiet Place collaborators Platinum Dunes and John Krasinski. Now Deadline reports that the project has found its lead in Julia Garner, who is best known for playing the role of Ruth Langmore on the Netflix crime drama series Ozark. Garner has won two Emmys for her work on Ozark.
Details on Apartment 7A and the character Garner will be playing in it are being kept under wraps. The “psychological thriller” description is all we really know about this one… but the involvement of Garner and the creative team behind the project is enough to hold our attention for now.
This project started out with an original screenplay written by Skylar James. Natalie Erika James and her Relic co-writer Christian White have performed their own rewrite of the script since coming on board last year.
Krasinski will be producing Apartment 7A with Allyson Seeger through their company Sunday Night Productions, while Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller are producing through Platinum Dunes. Alexa Ginsburg will be overseeing the project for Sunday Night Productions, while Alex Ginno does the same for Platinum Dunes.
Garner made her feature debut in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Since then, her credits have included The Perks of Being a Wallflower, We Are What We Are, The Last Exorcism Part II, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Grandma, Everything Beautiful Is Far Away, Waco, The Americans, Maniac (2018), and Dirty John. The fourth and final season of Ozark consists of fourteen episodes that have been split into two parts. The first part of the season is scheduled to start streaming on Netflix on January 21st.
Relic was James’ feature directorial debut. With Apartment 7A casting up, it looks like this is going to be her second feature to go into production.
