While Edgar Wright has been a master at mimicking the aesthetics and tropes of action, horror, and thriller films, they've always been done either as parodies or deconstructions. But starting with Baby Driver – which itself had a comedic edge, though less satirical or parodic than his past work with Simon Pegg – Wright is now going full earnest with his upcoming thriller Last Night at SoHo, starring Anya-Taylor Joy. And now you can see what look she's sporting in the new film, courtesy of Total Film, which you can see for yourself at the bottom of the article!
Here's the official synopsis:
In 2019, Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie), a young woman from the country, arrives in London to pursue her passion for fashion design. Things don’t go great. Meanwhile, in 1965, singer Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy) similarly discovers that the big city’s supposedly gold-paved streets are riven with cracks that can swallow you whole.
And here's what Wright had to say about the inspiration for the project:
The idea for the movie is the result of 25 years of living and working in Soho…I spent so much time looking at the architecture, thinking, ‘What have these walls seen?’ And walking the streets late at night. Soho’s become a lot more gentrified, but it still has that darkness just under the surface. It’s one of those places where you only need to stand still for 60 seconds for something strange or magical or weird or dark to happen.
Meanwhile, Last Night in SoHo – directed by Edgar Wright and starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie – is set to be released April 23, 2021 (but we'll keep you updated if there are any changes).
