Anya Taylor-Joy is in negotiations to re-team with THE WITCH director Robert Eggers on his remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent classic NOSFERATU, but Eggers is probably going to have to wait a while before Taylor-Joy can make it to set. Since her breakthrough role in THE WITCH the actress has had quite a busy schedule – she's currently working on the X-MEN spin-off THE NEW MUTANTS and next month she'll be reprising her role from M. Night Shyamalan's SPLIT in the UNBREAKABLE crossover GLASS.
It has already been two years since it was announced that Eggers would be following THE WITCH with NOSFERATU, though, so waiting a little longer for Taylor-Joy shouldn't be a problem.
The remake is being produced by Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus for Studio 8. NOSFERATU is something of a passion project for Eggers, as Murnau's film is the one that helped him realize he wanted to be a director.
The synopsis for the original NOSFERATU:
A long time ago in middle Europe, a decrepit, forbidding castle stood. Casting an ominous shadow over the townspeople who dare not look upon it, the unholy dwelling is home to one Count Orlok, an undead night creature with a taste for human blood.
Eggers has said that he will be taking the same approach to this film as he did to THE WITCH, in that he wants to present the time and setting (1830s Biedermeier Baltic Germany in this case) in a realistic way.
NOSFERATU previously received a well regarded remake from Werner Herzog in 1979.
