The TRANSFORMERS franchise has been around for decades, with bashing robots fighting their way from the 80s all the way into the new millennium. But according to a new video posted for the next film, THE LAST KNIGHT, space robots have been here forever, fighting in epic battles alongside humans. And yes, that does include fighting the Nazi’s.
Featuring a calm narration from Anthony Hopkins’ Sir Edmond Burton, the video explores the history of the robots, accompanied by a montage of photos from history featuring all different kinds of bots. They fought with samurais, in the Civil War, and basically every other major historical event:
There’s also a new poster to go along with it. I bet William Wallace wishes he had one of these:
This “rethink history” angle is one of the big leaps the series is taking in order to seem fresh in the eyes of audiences, with LAST KNIGHT acting as sort of a soft reboot. You think humans would’ve noticed giant robots wreaking havoc at this point, so how the story in the movie aims to explain why no one mentioned these guys’ role in history until now will be a bit of a challenge. I’m all for a history lesson, especially when it involves transforming old-timey cars.
TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT arrives June 21 with Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and more.
