CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR has just started filming over at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia and if you're an avid reader of JoBlo then some of this may not be news to you. We now have confirmation from Marvel about a few things we reported on last month. Namely, that Paul Rudd's Ant-Man will be making an appearance in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. If you want to know which side he'll be fighting on, as well as a few other tidbits, you can check out the original scoop HERE. Also confirmed is that William Hurt's character from THE INCREDIBLE HULK, General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, will be involved in the mix.
WINTER SOLDIER directors Joe and Anthony Russo are returning to direct Cap's third installment from a script by WINTER SOLDIER writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. The roster of characters includes (but is not limited to) Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as The Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Elizabeth Olsen Scarlet Witch, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Agent 13, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, Martin Freeman in an undisclosed role, and as of now, an unknown actor as Spider-Man. Whew! Now that's a hell of a line-up!
The synopsis is as follows:
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR picks up where AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
For those who didn't get enough comic book hero goodness with AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, CIVIL WAR is certainly shaping up to placate that need and then some! At the very least, it looks to tie over fans until INFINITY WARS arrives in 2018, as the next three Marvel films after CIVIL WAR (DOCTOR STRANGE, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 and THOR: RAGNAROK) will probably not show us too many of the classic core characters. Then again, it's Mah-vel, baby!
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
