Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania special look lays out Ant-Man’s legacy

Comic-Con Experience 2022 in São Paulo, Brazil, has offered plenty of excitement today with the debut of new trailers for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but the convention had other goodies as well. The stars and filmmakers behind Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania took to the stage to offer a special look at the legacy of Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Quantumania special look also includes a glimpse at the upcoming sequel.

The Ant-Man movies have told lighter stories in the MCU, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is upping the stakes considerably with the debut of Marvel’s next big bad — Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). Director Peyton Reed said Kang will have “a profound impact on the MCU. Jeff Loveness, who wrote this movie, is writing The Kang Dynasty as well, so there’s been a lot of discussion about the impact that this appearance of Kang the Conqueror makes. There are big things in store.” Majors made his first MCU appearance as He Who Remains, an alternate version of the character, in the Loki series on Disney+, but Reed said that Kang is quite different. “Kang the Conqueror in our movie is a very different character. He’s someone who has dominion over time, and he’s a warrior and a strategist. That’s interesting to me: to take the tiniest, and in some people’s minds weakest, Avenger, and put them up against this absolute force of nature.

Superhero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp,” reads the official synopsis. “Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will hit theaters on February 17, 2023.
