It’s been four years since the possessed, little doll that is Chucky has appeared in a feature film, and that dry spell will be ending this year! EW has revealed some new details about the horror icon, most notably that filming will commence on the sequel, CULT OF CHUCKY, come January 9th. Returning to the series will be the voice of Chucky himself, Brad Dourif, as well as Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent and Jennifer Tilly. Writer/director Don Mancini, who tackled both 2004’s SEED OF CHUCKY and 2013’s CURSE OF CHUCKY, will be writing/directing this time around. Get hyped with the following announcement trailer!
The synopsis according to EW:
CULT OF CHUCKY will catch up with Nica (Fiona Dourif) at an asylum for the criminally insane where she has been confined for the past four years and is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky (Brad Dourif), murdered her entire family. But when Nica’s psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
I enjoyed the CHUCKY films growing up, but haven’t bothered with the last two entries in the franchise. At the very least, CULT OF CHUCKY should provide some tried and true gore-gasms come Halloween. What’s a gore-gasm, you ask? I don’t know, I’m making this up as I go! In all seriousness, Dourif has a beautiful voice, so if Mancini wants to capitalize on it, I’m down!
CULT OF CHUCKY will hit Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD this fall.
