Is anyone really looking forward to any of the multitude of pandemic themed movies and TV shows just over the horizon? Well, who cares, because here's another one to add to the pile. Deadline has reported that before Doug Liman (CHAOS WALKING) heads to space with Tom Cruise (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7), the director will be helming LOCKDOWN, a heist/romantic comedy movie set in the backdrop of the pandemic lockdown. Not only that, but Anne Hathaway (THE WITCHES) is currently in final talks to star in the film.
Doug Liman plans to shoot the film, which has been scripted by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), in London by the end of September. In addition to Anne Hathaway, Deadline has also heard that Cillian Murphy (A QUIET PLACE: PART II) might play one of the key roles but that his involvement is up in the air at the moment. Planning and committing a heist during a pandemic certainly isn't a bad idea for a film, here's hoping Doug Liman can pull it off.
Speaking of Doug Liman, I mentioned at the beginning that the director would be heading to space with Tom Cruise, and in case you'd missed out on that news, I mean actual outer space. It was announced earlier this year that Tom Cruise would be partnering with Elon Musk's Space X and NASA to shoot a film in outer-space on the International Space Station. Universal Pictures has coughed up $200 million to get the project off the ground, but there's still plenty of planning to be done before Cruise heads off to the final frontier.
