The ghosts of Hill House are going to have a lot of people to spook in Mike Flanagan's 10 episode Netflix series based on Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House. Previous announcements have revealed the names of thirteen cast members (Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, Timothy Hutton, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Pedretti, Mckenna Grace, Violet McGraw, Lulu Wilson, Paxton Singleton, and Julian Hilliard), and now a fourteenth name has been added to the list: Annabeth Gish.
A prolific actress with more than 80 credits to her name, Gish is perhaps best known for playing the role of Monica Reyes on 20+ episodes of The X-Files. She worked with Flanagan on his film BEFORE I WAKE, which has had trouble getting released in the U.S. despite being available in other countries.
Details on the characters in The Haunting of Hill House are being kept under wraps. We only know that Huisman is playing Steven Crane,
the oldest Crane sibling and a published writer of supernatural books — including a memoir about his family's time living at Hill House.
The announcement of Gish's casting is rare in that it included the name of her character – Mrs. Dudley. There was no description given, but if you're familiar with Jackson's novel or its two feature adaptations (THE HAUNTING 1963 and THE HAUNTING 1999), then you'll know that Mrs. Dudley is a caretaker at Hill House.
Gish's Mrs. Dudley is a recurring role in the series.
