Annabelle Wallis to join Tom Cruise in Universal’s reboot of The Mummy

As a huge fan of the Universal Monsters, I wish I was feeling better about Universal's plan to reunite all their famous characterss in their very own cinematic universe, but sadly that's not the case. I've heard little which has gotten me pumped about the upcoming films, but I suppose there's still plenty of time for them to pull it all together. Universal has tasked Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan with bringing together Universal Monster favourites like The Mummy, The Wolf Man, The Invisible Man, and others into this new universe, and the first film out of the gate will be THE MUMMY.

Although it was first denied by both Universal and his representatives, Tom Cruise officially signed on to star in THE MUMMY earlier this year, not too long after it had been announced that Sofia Boutella (STAR TREK BEYOND) would be playing the titular bandaged character. A new actress has been added to the cast of THE MUMMY as it has been reported that Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders) is in talks to star alongside Cruise in the film, where she would play an archaeologist. Not much is known about the Jon Spaihts penned film, but unlike the last series of MUMMY films put out by Universal which stared Brendan Fraser, this new film will be set in modern times. THE MUMMY, which will be directed by Alex Kurtzman, is set for a June 9, 2017 release.

Annabelle Wallis has several films on the horizon, including Sacha Baron Cohen's THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY and Guy Ritchie's upcoming KNIGHTS OF THE ROUNDTABLE: KING ARTHUR in which she'll portray Maid Maggie.
