When anyone asks me who my favorite modern Hollywood starlet is one of the names that instantly pops up is Anna Kendrick. She’s funny, genuine, a delight to gaze upon and immeasurably talented. She’s done everything from heavy dramas to animated musicals, with no signs of slowing down. Hell I'd watch her chop carrots for four hours. She doesn't even have to make anything with them.
But one thing she hasn’t done is don a cape or a super suit—which of course is the pinnacle of movie stardom nowadays. However, during an interview with Net A Porter Kendrick didn’t exactly rule out the possibility of playing a superhero. In fact, the hero she most wants to play is, frankly, the reason why I love her.
"My brother sent me a ‘Squirrel Girl’ comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”
Now for those of you not familiar with the Marvel character Squirrel Girl then congratulations, you’re a normal, functioning member of society. But just in case they do make a movie about the heroine, and you wanna act like you’ve known who she was “before she was cool”, here’s her picture.
Even though she is quite possibly the silliest-sounding character in the Marvel universe, she is actually quite the badass. She’s used her powers of super strength and fast healing (among others, like being able to store nuts at an alarming rate, I imagine) to defeat insanely powerful villains like Doctor Doom and Thanos.
So knowing that Thanos is set to play a huge role in future Marvel movies, is it too strange to think that Squirrel Girl would enter the mix? Granted, even though Marvel isn’t as focused on making their universe as realistic and grounded as DC is, I still think Squirrel Girl is a little too far-fetched a character to bring to life. But, so was Ant-Man, I suppose, and Paul Rudd dominated that role like a fat guy dominates cheeseburgers. And if anyone can dominate Squirrel Girl and become half squirrel, it’s Kendrick. Praise be unto her.
