Animal Kingdom, renewed, sixth season, final season, TNT

One of my favorite shows on television is coming back for one last round of family criminal activity. It has been announced that TNT has renewed Animal Kingdom for a sixth & final season.

The season six renewal comes ahead of the drama's fifth season, which will return in the summer. Animal Kingdom was not able to return for its traditional summer run because of the pandemic with season four wrapping up in August 2019. Season five recently returned to production to gear up for its summer debut while the sixth and final season will likely air in the summer of 2022.

Animal Kingdom is still going strong on TNT and is one of their top performers. It's one of TNT's last scripted original shows as the network seems to be stepping away from scripted programming. As far as ratings are concerned, Animal Kingdom was a top 10 cable drama among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo and total viewers in 2019.

The series, which stars Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole, Leila George, Rigo Sanchez, and Jon Beavers, centers on a Southern California family, whose excessive lifestyle is fueled by their criminal activities. (SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASON 5 AHEAD IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED…YOU'VE BEEN WARNED….). Season five will focus on the fallout after Smurf's (series lead Ellen Barkin) surprising death in season four. The show will also flashback to 1984 and follow a young Smurf forging her own path while raising two kids.

Since there is time to catch up on Animal Kingdom before its fifth season and ultimately its final sixth season, I highly recommend checking out this show because it's one of the best on television. Even though it seems relatively popular, I never really hear many people talking about it. The cast is stellar and it only gets better with each season.
