Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza & more join R-rated live-action/animated Animal Friends

Deadline has reported that Legendary is developing Animal Friends with an all-star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, and Vince Vaughn.

Not much is known about Animal Friends, only that it will be a live-action/animated hybrid which is being described as “an R-rated road trip adventure.” As to who Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, and Vince Vaughn will be playing in Animal Friends, your guess is as good as mine at this point. But they’re all very funny folks, so we should be in for a good time. The project has been scripted by Kevin Burrows and Matt Midler, who have previously worked together on The Package for Netflix and Gentlemen Lobsters for Condé Nast. The pair also recently sold The Pick Up to Amazon, a heist comedy spec with Tim Story attached to direct and Eddie Murphey eyeing the leading role. Animal Friends will be directed by Peter Atencio, who helmed Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key’s action comedy Keanu.

Ryan Reynolds is gearing up to shoot Deadpool 3 this summer, which will see Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. “Oh my God, I’m thrilled,” Reynolds said of Jackman’s return. “It’s like old home week. To get to be on set with one of my closest friends each and every day is a dream come true. But to do it with these two iconic characters side by side, that’s beyond our wildest dreams.” Deadpool 3 will hit theaters on November 8, 2024.

Jason Momoa will of course be reprising his role of Aquaman for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will hit theaters on December 20th, but his next project will see him play the latest Fast & Furious villain in Fast X. Momoa’s character, Dante, is out for revenge after Dominic Toretto’s crew stole his family fortune and caused the death of his father. Fast X is set for a May 19th release.

As for Aubrey Plaza and Vince Vaughn, Plaza recently wrapped on Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic Megalopolis and is currently shooting on Marvel’s Agatha: Coven of Chaos for Disney+, and Vaughn is set to star in Eazy’s Waltz, an indie drama from True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto starring Al Pacino, Michelle Monaghan, and Simon Rex.
