The Golden Globes are the best place to get info directly from the horse's mouth. The stars are drinking, they're bored, and they're bound to let a thing or two slip. For example, in this E! interview about Lady Gaga's unexpected win for American Horror Story, showrunner Ryan Murphy said that he got a little overexcited and began to tell his stars what he was planning for them to play next season.
One name he let slip was Angela Bassett, confirming that she will indeed be returning. Bassett has been on the show since season 3 (though, frankly, I feel like she hardly counts as being on this season with how little screentime she's been getting).
The theme for next season hasn't been announced yet, though apparently her role will be somewhat shocking. This is all very early intel so we don't have a lot to go on yet, though undoubtedly the Ryan Murphy promo machine will begin grinding out regular updates as soon as the current season wraps up.
The finale of American Horror Story: Hotel will air tomorrow, January 13th on FX at 10PM. The season stars Lady Gaga, Denis O'Hare, Evan Peters, Matt Bomer, Finn Wittrock, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Cheyenne Jackson, Max Greenfield, Lily Rabe, Naomi Campbell, Madchen Amick, Darren Criss, and Chloe Sevigny.
