Over the course of six films, the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise has developed a wonderful ensemble cast anchored by Tom Cruise and his death-defying stunts, and with production now underway on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7, ComingSoon has the scoop on one actor who will be reprising their role for the upcoming sequels.
While speaking with Angela Bassett, who played CIA director Erika Sloane in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT, ComingSoon learned that there are plans in the works for her to reprise the role.
The real conversation is when, I think they’ve begun filming, or that was the plan, but you know in these trying times, the best laid plans of mice and men sometimes go awry. But I do have the pages, we’ll just see when I get the ticket to fly and go do my part, but that’s coming up and I’m really excited about it.
There are actually two MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE sequels in the works, both slated to be written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, but Bassett didn't mention which sequel she would be appearing in, or if she'll turn up in both. Angela Bassett is far from the only MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE cast member returning for the new films, as they're also expected to feature Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny, the latter of whom hasn't been seen since the very first MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movie. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 will also star Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Shea Whigham.
When it comes to the franchise's customary over-the-top stunts, we already know that one of them features Tom Cruise speeding down a ramp on a motorcycle before launching off a cliff and parachuting to safety while the motorcycle plummets to the ground. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 is slated to hit theaters on November 19, 2021, with MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8 expected to follow on November 4, 2022.
