Director Ang Lee has cast comedian Demetri Martin as the lead in his next film TAKING WOODSTOCK. Martin, who does some insanely hilarious stand-up as well as contributing to “The Daily Show,” will star as Elliot, a man working at a motel in the Catskills who inadvertently sets in motion the iconic concert at Woodstock. The film is based on Elliot Tiber’s memoir of the same name with Lee’s frequent collaborator James Schamus writing the script. Schamus also heads up Focus Features so, as you might expect, the indie studio will be backing the film. If you’re unfamiliar with Martin’s work, you should check out some of his popular videos on YouTube like this one. (Feel free to share you favorite line below. One of my faves: “A dreamcatcher works, if your dream is to be gay.”) Martin has a role in the upcoming Fox comedy THE ROCKER and recently shot a pilot for Comedy Central based on his “Trendspotting” segments on “The Daily Show.” Filming on WOODSTOCK is expected to begin this August.
