We've seen plenty of stoner comedies hit our screens over the years, but the next one in development will bring superheroes into the equation. Per Deadline, New Line Cinema has acquired the rights to SUPER HIGH following a competitive bidding war. The pitch has Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Craig Robinson (DOLEMITE IS MY NAME), and Common (Hell on Wheels) attached to star and is said to be a superhero comedy where smoking special weed gives you super powers.
The script will be penned by Adam Mansbach, the award-winning New York Times best-selling author who is best known for the children's book for adults, "Go the F*ck to Sleep."
Andy Samberg recently starred in romantic comedy PALM SPRINGS alongside Cristin Milioti and J.K. Simmons, and will also reprise his role of Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), an immature but talented NYPD detective in Brooklyn's fictional 99th Precinct, for the next season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. However, it was announced that the eighth season of the series would be retooled in the wake of the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and others, as well as being pushed back to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Common last starred alongside Jessica Chastain in AVA, an action-thriller that hit VOD last month, and Craig Robinson was last seen in TIMMY FAILURE: MISTAKES WERE MADE, which debuted on the Disney+ streaming service earlier this year. Robinson will next be seen in the Michael Bay produced pandemic romantic thriller SONGBIRD.
