It’s official: The Flash director Andy Muschietti will direct DC’s forthcoming Batman movie The Brave and the Bold.

Update: Well, it’s official. The Flash director Andy Muschietti will indeed be helming Batman: The Brave and the Bold. DC confirmed the news in a statement:

It’s a magnificent film (The Flash) — funny, emotional, thrilling — and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame.”

So when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice.”

“They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”

Of course, anyone who’s seen the film will be curious to know what Batman is the lead going forward…

Original Post: It’s time to fire up the old Rumor Mill, folks! According to One Take NewsThe Flash director Andy Muschietti is getting behind the camera for DC’s upcoming Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold. The forthcoming superhero feature is part of the first chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebuild of the DCU, titled Gods and Monsters. According to Gunn, The Brave and the Bold introduces a new actor as Batman and Damian Wayne’s Robin. The story revolves around an unusual father-son story inspired by Grant Morrison’s legendary comic book series.

The report from One Take News follows a previous rumor about Ben Affleck directing The Brave and the Bold. Gunn spoke about Affleck shooting a Batman movie for the rebooted DCU in a series of tweets responding to a fan’s inquiry. The fan posted an article about Affleck possibly being the director and tauntingly asked, “Didn’t Gunn say in a previous interview that Affleck’s not directing Brave and the Bold? I get that Gunn is something of a professional liar, but still.” Gunn replied, “For years it’s been my commitment to the fans that I will never lie to them… and I never have. I’d be very curious about what it is you think I’ve lied about.” The fan responded with pictures of past tweets where Gunn stated that he wouldn’t want to run DC and wouldn’t want to direct a Superman movie.

Gunn replied, “Neither of those were lies. I was offered Superman but did Squad instead. A few years later I saw how to tackle Superman & took it on. I didn’t want to be the sole CEO of DC, but when they came & offered it to me AND Peter I said yes because I could focus on the creative side.”

To be clear, Andy Muschietti’s involvement with The Brave and the Bold is not gospel. While he seems logical after early reactions to The Flash say it’s “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” WB keeps plans for The Brave and the Bold close to its chest. I would not be surprised if Muschietti directs DC’s forthcoming Batman film, but I’ll wait for the official word from the studio.

Do you think Andy Muschietti would be an excellent choice to direct The Brave and the Bold? Who would you cast as Batman and Damian Wayne? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
