Some new names have joined the cast of Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS and they should at least make those on the fans a little more interested in the remake of Ivan Reitman's classic movie. The Wrap reports that Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Cecily Strong, and Matt Walsh will all appear in the film which is currently in production.
The news did not indicate which character SNL castmember Strong will play, but her appearance should work well opposite the main quarter of actresses who all appear on the sketch comedy series or have hosted multiple times. Matt Walsh of Veep and the Upright Citizens Brigade will portray a character named Rourke. Michael K Williams, best known for his roles on The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, joins as Hawkins while Andy Garcia will play the Mayor of New York.
Garcia has enjoyed a long career but has not maintained the same star power in recent years as he had in his prime. Still, the Mayor in the original GHOSTBUSTERS remains a memorable role even if many people don't know the actor's name (FYI, it isĀ David Margulies). Garcia could have some fun being a hardass skeptic when Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon try to explain the paranormal phenomenon plaguing NYC. I just hope they cast someone good for Walter Peck. It should be easy since this is an all female reboot and he has no dick.
GHOSTBUSTERS hits theaters on July 22, 2016.
